Recipe for Joy

Day 80 – #100HappyDay Challenge

Do you ever feel like just when you think things are going your way, roadblocks show up derailing all your hard work? What do you do? Seriously, would love to know your strategies.

When I was a kid in school I remember walking home in the rain deflated  I don’t remember what happened at school that day. But I do remember my mom telling me to go take a shower, that it would make me feel better (she wasn’t a hugger) It was her strategy for washing away negativity and maybe dealing with a moody pre-teen.

Either way, I still treat myself to long hot showers when life becomes unbearable. I step into the stream of hot water, inhaling eucalyptus steam from spray I place in the shower (a little luxury but sooo worth it). After a few deep breaths, I close my eyes, visualizing all the toxic energy being swept away, down the drain. I say a prayer letting it all go.

Minds are funny things though. Sometimes our thoughts get caught up in loops. Sometimes it takes a while to get rid of the yuck. Don’t dispair. They are only thoughts. Thoughts can be changed.

I read a book a long time ago , The Game of Life and How to Play It, published in 1925, by Florence Scovel Shinn. This book introduced me to how powerful thoughts and words are.  I learned about affirmations, which, as God usually does, happened during one of my most darkest periods of my life, my divorce. I honestly believe that God provides exactly what you need exactly when you need it most.

I whole heartily recommend affirmations, prayers, and gratitude. These are easy, low calorie treats that will lift you up in ways that chocolate cake will never do. Add a hot shower to the mix and you have a wonderful relaxing recipe for joy.

Sending you love and happiness.

💕

Love, April

  1. Thank you for reminding me of this beautiful book by Florence Scovel Shinn which I so much enjoyed reading in my younger days. I would love to read it again but mine flew off as many of my good books. Happy New Year to you!

    1. I’m so sorry for the delayed response. This was delivered to the spam folder. Not sure why. Im still learning this self hosted platform. I have several of her books. I seem to give them away then buy a few more. I’ve ordered them from amazon. Here’s a quick link.

      Happy New Year!

Share your thoughts...always happy to hear from you!
